Philip Morris International's operating margin, our calculation, ranged from 32.6% in Q4 2025 to 40.5% in Q2 2026 across the 8 quarters. Operating income was USD 4,530 million in Q2 2026, against USD 3,712 million in Q2 2025.

The table also shows a net loss of USD 579 million for Q4 2024, in a quarter with operating income of USD 3,259 million. The FY2024 10-K records a non-cash impairment charge of USD 2,316 million on PMI's investment in its Canadian subsidiary, Rothmans, Benson & Hedges, for the year ended 31 Dec 2024.[7] No 10-Q covers a fourth quarter, as our guide on how to read a 10-Q explains. So we derive Q4 2024 as the fiscal year less the first 3 quarters, and the charge falls in that column.

The Philip Morris International financial statements page sets out the rest of the quarterly income statement, from interest to tax. Each column links to its filing, and derived columns carry a D marker.

Why did Philip Morris International's 10-Qs of 2026 reclassify its cost of sales for Q1 and Q2 2025?

Philip Morris International's 10-Q filed 25 Jul 2025 reported cost of sales of USD 3,279 million for Q2 2025.[5] Its 10-Q filed 24 Jul 2026 reports a different amount for that quarter. The 10-Q reclassified foreign currency gains and losses and share-award compensation to a new caption, Corporate expenses and other.[1]

Those items came out of cost of sales and out of marketing, administration and research costs.[1] The 10-Q says this followed a change on 1 Jan 2026, when 3 new reportable segments replaced 4 geographic ones.[1] It says the reclassifications did not impact consolidated financial position, results of operations or cash flows in any period presented.[1] The 10-Q filed 24 Apr 2026 does the same for Q1 2025, for which the 10-Q filed 24 Apr 2025 reported cost of sales of USD 3,040 million.[2][6]

Revenue for both quarters is unchanged, so gross profit moves with cost of sales. Gross profit as first filed was USD 6,861 million for Q2 2025 and USD 6,261 million for Q1 2025. Our gross margin calculation uses the reclassified amounts, and those cells carry the R marker.

The footnote on each R cell gives the amount first reported and both filing dates. Our methodology explains how we mark restated and derived figures. The Q3 2025 and Q4 2025 columns come from filings dated before the change, so the 8 quarters mix 2 presentations.

How did Philip Morris International's net debt change from 30 Jun 2025 to 30 Jun 2026?

Philip Morris International's net debt, our calculation, was USD 43.1 billion at 30 Jun 2026, against USD 47.3 billion at 30 Jun 2025. At 30 Jun 2026, its total debt was USD 49.1 billion and its cash and short-term investments were USD 5,999 million, from its Form 10-Q for Q2 2026.

  • D Total debt = short-term debt + long-term debt, from the same filing.
  • D Net debt = total debt minus cash and short-term investments; a negative value is net cash.

Cash and short-term investments rose from USD 4,138 million at 30 Jun 2025 to USD 5,999 million. Total debt fell from USD 51.5 billion to USD 49.1 billion over the same 12 months. Net debt was USD 46.0 billion at 30 Sep 2025, USD 44.0 billion at 31 Dec 2025 and USD 46.5 billion at 31 Mar 2026. Net debt to EBITDA, our calculation, was 2.4× in Q2 2026.

Total debt is our sum of the borrowing lines on the balance sheet, so it can differ from a single line in the filing. Altria Group, with which Philip Morris International agreed in 2022 to end their U.S. commercial relationship on IQOS, has its own page: Altria Group stock fundamentals.[3]

How we got these numbers

Every figure comes from Philip Morris International's Forms 10-Q and 10-K as filed with the SEC. Derived values are marked D and explained below.

Period covered
8 quarters and 5 fiscal years
Calculations
TTM = sum of the last 4 quarters. Q4 = fiscal year minus the nine-month YTD. Margins = line item ÷ revenue. FCF = cash from operations − capital expenditure. EBITDA = operating income + depreciation and amortisation (our calculation). Net debt = total debt − cash and short-term investments. CAGR = compound annual growth over three fiscal years.
Restatements
Q2 2025 gross profit, an input of the Q2 2025 ratio, was restated in Form 10-Q filed (originally USD 6,861 m). Q1 2025 gross profit, an input of the Q1 2025 ratio, was restated in Form 10-Q filed (originally USD 6,261 m). Restated figures carry the R marker; its footnote gives the originally reported value.
Comparator
Each profile row compares the current value with Philip Morris International's own last five fiscal years, FY2021 to FY2025: the median of those five years and their range, from the lowest to the highest. A current value outside that range is drawn just past the end of the strip. Fewer than 5 covered peers exist, so there is no sector median yet.
