Costco (Nasdaq: COST) ended FY2026 on 30 Aug 2026 with cash and short-term investments of USD 21.3 billion and total debt of USD 6,162 million, net cash of USD 15.1 billion by our calculation. Its Form 10-K reports revenue of USD 303 billion for the year, of which Q4 FY2026, derived by us, brought USD 95.7 billion.
Key facts
Costco (Nasdaq: COST) · USD · fiscal year ends late August · figures from SEC filings; derived values are marked.
- Revenue, TTM (USD bn)
- 303
- Revenue by quarter, from USD 62.2 bn in Q1 FY2025 to USD 95.7 bn in Q4 FY2026
What the numbers show
Costco's operating income grew faster than its revenue from FY2022 to FY2026: at a compound annual rate of 10.7%, against 7.5% for revenue, our calculations. In FY2026, the year ended 30 Aug 2026, revenue was USD 303,154 million, operating income USD 11,685 million and net income USD 9,226 million. That is an operating margin of 3.9%, our calculation.
The 10-K puts most of the rise in FY2026 net sales down to comparable sales, with the rest from net new warehouses opened since the end of FY2025. Q4 FY2026 brought revenue of USD 95.7 billion, 11.1% more than in Q4 FY2025 (our calculation), and net income of USD 2,998 million. The 10-K says the fourth quarter spans four of the year's thirteen four-week periods, against three for each other quarter. Its cells are the fiscal year less the first three quarters, marked D.
The balance sheet at 30 Aug 2026 shows total assets of USD 89.0 billion, against USD 77.1 billion a year earlier. Cash and short-term investments rose to USD 21.3 billion from USD 15.3 billion, and total debt was USD 6,162 million. That leaves net debt below zero: net cash of USD 15.1 billion, our calculation. The 10-K puts the higher interest income of FY2026 down to higher cash balances, partly offset by lower interest rates.
The cash flow statement shows cash from operations of USD 15,817 million in FY2026, up from USD 13,335 million in FY2025 and USD 7,392 million in FY2022. The 10-K credits higher operating income and a smaller net investment in merchandise inventories for the FY2026 rise. Capital expenditure was USD 6,435 million. That left free cash flow of USD 9,382 million, our calculation, against USD 7,837 million in FY2025.
Diluted EPS was USD 20.76 per share in FY2026. Dividends declared came to USD 5.54 per share in FY2026; the board raised the quarterly dividend in April 2026, and FY2024's USD 19.36 per share included a special dividend. Dividends paid were USD 2,458 million and buybacks USD 848 million in FY2026. Costco stock fundamentals sets both against free cash flow.
