ExxonMobil's 10-Q for Q2 2026 labels its revenue line total revenues and other income, and it adds sales and other operating revenue to income from equity affiliates and other income.[1] The same filing puts net income attributable to ExxonMobil at USD 14.5 billion, against USD 7.1 billion in Q2 2025.[1]

The filing says the rise in earnings was driven by higher prices and margins, advantaged investments in Upstream and Energy Products, and structural cost savings.[1] It names higher expenses related to depreciation, lower volumes from scheduled maintenance and Middle East disruptions, and identified items as partial offsets.[1] Net income was lower in Q1 2026, at USD 4.18 billion on revenue of USD 85.1 billion.

ExxonMobil's filings come from two SEC registrants. On 1 Jul 2026, Exxon Mobil Corporation completed a redomiciliation, and ExxonMobil Holdings Corporation, a Texas corporation, became the publicly traded parent and successor registrant, still trading as XOM.[1] The 10-Q for Q2 2026 is filed under the new holding company's SEC number.

The quarters before it come from filings of the earlier company, so this page joins two registrants' filings. The 10-Q says the merger did not change the consolidated business, operations, assets, liabilities or financial reporting basis.[1] Our guide on how to read a 10-Q shows where each statement sits in a quarterly filing.

How did ExxonMobil's net debt move from Q2 2025 to Q2 2026?

ExxonMobil's net debt, our calculation, was USD 31.8 billion at 30 Jun 2026, down from USD 39.2 billion at 31 Mar 2026. At 30 Jun 2025 it was USD 24.6 billion, so net debt rose in each of the 3 quarters to Q1 2026 and fell in Q2 2026.

  • D Total debt = short-term debt + long-term debt, from the same filing.
  • D Net debt = total debt minus cash and short-term investments; a negative value is net cash.

Net debt is total debt less cash and short-term investments. Total debt at 30 Jun 2026 was USD 42.4 billion, down from USD 47.7 billion at 31 Mar 2026. Cash and short-term investments were USD 10.6 billion, up from USD 8.44 billion. Our total debt adds the notes and loans payable line to long-term debt on the balance sheet.[1]

From 30 Jun 2025 to 31 Mar 2026, cash and short-term investments fell at each quarter-end, from USD 14.4 billion to USD 8.44 billion. Over the same quarter-ends, total debt rose from USD 39.0 billion to USD 47.7 billion. Both lines reversed in Q2 2026. The quarterly balance sheets behind each figure are on the ExxonMobil financial statements page.

How did ExxonMobil's buybacks compare with its free cash flow from FY2021 to FY2025?

ExxonMobil spent USD 20.3 billion on share buybacks in FY2025, the year ended 31 Dec 2025, up from USD 155 million in FY2021. Its free cash flow, our calculation, fell over the same years, from USD 36.1 billion in FY2021 to USD 23.6 billion in FY2025.

  • D Free cash flow = cash from operations minus capital expenditure.

Totals may not add up because of rounding.

ExxonMobil's dividends on common shares were USD 4.00 per share in FY2025, and dividends paid totalled USD 17.2 billion. In FY2025, dividends paid and buybacks together were larger than free cash flow, and the same was true in FY2024.

Capital expenditure rose in each of the 5 years, from USD 12.1 billion in FY2021 to USD 28.4 billion in FY2025. Cash from operations peaked at USD 76.8 billion in FY2022 and was USD 52.0 billion in FY2025, so free cash flow fell in each year after FY2022. Its 10-Q for Q2 2026 reports USD 8.6 billion of dividends and USD 10.0 billion of common stock repurchased in the first 6 months of 2026.[1] The PepsiCo stock fundamentals page sets a food and drinks company's cash returns against its free cash flow in the same way.

8 quarters and 5 fiscal years
Calculations
TTM = sum of the last 4 quarters. Q4 = fiscal year minus the nine-month YTD. Margins = line item ÷ revenue. FCF = cash from operations − capital expenditure. EBITDA = operating income + depreciation and amortisation (our calculation). Net debt = total debt − cash and short-term investments. CAGR = compound annual growth over three fiscal years.
Restatements
None in the periods shown.
Comparator
Each profile row compares the current value with ExxonMobil's own last five fiscal years, FY2021 to FY2025: the median of those five years and their range, from the lowest to the highest. A current value outside that range is drawn just past the end of the strip. Fewer than 5 covered peers exist, so there is no sector median yet.
